In 1994, I became the the publisher of On Being magazine, a title which had belonged consecutively to my good friends and colleagues Kevin Smith and Richard Horne. I felt strongly the weight of responsibility to produce a publication which both challenged and brought together many sides of Jesus’ church in Australia.
A few years later it was decided to change our name from On Being magazine, to ALIVE magazine. It was a more or less successful change, although I would not recommend doing a change such as this to just anyone.
Then in September 2001 the editor of ALIVE magazine, Melanie Pitcher, resigned. As a result I took on the post of Managing Editor and began writing what I hoped would be a thoughtful reflection on where we as a church were at in Australia. It’s interesting to read these editorials now. They don’t appear to have dated very much!
ALIVE magazine eventually moved on to Sydney publishers Media Incorporated in mid-2003. It was last published as an online magazine in August 2010.
